Building Accommodations:
The main entry is wheelchair accessible. Ramps are provided on both sides of the entry.
Public restrooms are located in the quad area/courtyard of the facility. A wheelchair accessible restroom is located in the front office area of the building, with one handicapped stall and wheelchair accessible sink.
Wheelchair accessible drinking fountains are located in the quad/courtyard area of the facility.
Smoke detectors and fire alarm systems are equipped with strobe lights.
Courtroom Accommodations:
The Hawthorne Court houses Departments HA1, HA2, and HA3, which are available for civil trials. This facility is open only for the purpose of conducting civil trials; it is not open to the general public. The facility is a one-story building. All three courtrooms, the jury assembly room, and jury deliberation rooms are located within the facility.
Assistive listening devices are available for hearing-disabled individuals. Individuals anticipating the need to use hearing assisted devices are requested to notify the ADA Coordinator’s Office by completing Judicial Council Form MC 410 and submitting it to the ADA Coordinator’s Office as far in advance of the court date as possible and in any event no less than five (5) court days prior to the hearing. A speech-generating device (NEO Text2Speech) is available upon request. Magnification devices are also available in each courtroom to assist individuals who are sight challenged.
If a printed transcript of a court hearing is required, please make arrangements to purchase one from the court reporter.
Individuals in need of sign language interpreters may request assistance through the Interpreter Coordinator’s Office. Individuals may request Computer Assisted Real-Time Transcription or CART assistance through the ADA Coordinator’s Office by submitting Judicial Council Form MC 410 to the Clerk’s Office or directly to the ADA Coordinator as far in advance of the court date as possible and in any event no less than five (5) court days prior to the hearing. Generally, sign language interpreters and CART reporters are provided to facilitate a hearing-disabled individual's participation in court proceedings, but they may be permitted to accompany an individual at other times to facilitate communication in court matters.
Clerk’s Office Accommodations:
The Hawthorne Court is not open to the general public. This court facility does not have a clerk’s office. Court staff is present to assist jurors only.
