Adults and juveniles receiving traffic citations other than parking tickets should receive a courtesy notice at least 10 days prior to the appearance date. If the courtesy notice indicates a mandatory appearance, you must appear at the Court.

OPTIONS

To Pay

  A non-mandatory violation may be paid without a court appearance. The court accepts checks, money orders and credit card payments by mail. Please do not send cash through the mail. You may also pay by telephone by using your Visa, MasterCard & Discover.

To Plead Not Guilty

  If you would like to plead not guilty to a traffic ticket you must appear at the court on or before the due date written on the ticket in order to set a court trial date. Bail must be posted. This request may be made by mail.

  If you wish to plead not guilty by declaration instead of appearing in court for your trial you must submit your not guilty plea and written declaration to the court on or before the due date of the written on the ticket. You must also send a check or money order made payable to "Clerk of the Court - Riverside County" for the amount of the bail indicated on your courtesy notice. The declaration should include the testimony you would give if you actually appeared for a court trial. This written statement must be signed and dated by you and include your ticket number. You will be notified of the court's decision by mail, so please enclose your correct address.

To Attend Traffic School

If you meet the following requirements you may be eligible to attend Traffic School:

You must not have attended traffic school on the prior citation issued within 18 months of the issue date of your present citation.

You must not have a mandatory court appearance or mandatory correction.

The appearance date on your ticket must not be past due.

If you meet the requirements and wish to attend traffic school, you will be required to pay a fee in the sum of $29.00, plus the amount of bail indicated on your courtesy notice, payable to "Clerk of the Court - Riverside County". There will be a separate fee at the class you attend. Upon completion of school, and upon the court receiving proof of such completion in a timely manner, your case will be dismissed.

Extensions

Proof of Correction

If your citation requires proof of correction, and the 40610 box is checked you must have your citation signed off by a Peace Officer. Submit the signed off citation with a $10.00 processing fee to the court to have the violations dismissed. If the 40610 box is not checked, there will be a bail amount assessed.

Court Appearances

Banning 
You must appear at the Clerk's Office at 7:30 a.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday in order to appear in court.

Hemet
You must appear at the Clerk's Office at 7:30 a.m., Wednesday, Thursday or Friday in order to appear in court.

Moreno Valley
You must appear at the Clerk's Office at 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday in order to appear in court. If you wish to appear at Night Court you must appear before 5:30 p.m. the 3rd (third) Wednesday of each month.

Temecula
You must appear at the Clerk's Office at 7:30 a.m., Mondays and Fridays in order to appear in court.

Indio
You must appear at the Clerk's Office at 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday in order to appear in court. If you wish to appear at Night Court you must appear before 5:00 on the 1st (first) Tuesday of each month.

Blythe
You must appear at the Clerk's Office at 7:30 a.m., Tuesdays, Wednesday, or Friday, in order to appear in court. If you wish to appear at Night Court you must appear before 3:30 p.m. the 3rd (third) Wednesday of each month.

All Courts
If you fail to appear in court as you have promised you may be subject to an additional Failure to Appear charge, which is a misdemeanor and punishable by a fine, or jail, or both. In addition, the Department of Motor Vehicles may withhold the issuance or renewal of your driver's license, and may revoke or suspend your driving privilege.
