Delinquent fines
What happens to my case if I fail to appear for court or fail to pay my fine?
If you fail to appear or fail to pay a fine as ordered:
- A $300.00 Civil Assessment pursuant to Penal Code §1214 may be added
- Your driver's license may be suspended
- A DMV hold may be placed on your vehicle registration
You may also be subject to other civil penalties that may include wage garnishment and tax interception.
What happens if I pay my fine or appear for court after the Civil Assessment has been imposed?
If you initially failed to appear, once you “clear” your citation with the Court, the Court will notify DMV within 5 days to remove the hold from your license.
If you initially failed to pay your fine, the Court will notify DMV to remove the hold only after you have paid your fine in full.
