Building Accommodations:

The main entrance to the courthouse is located on the south or front side of the building and is wheelchair accessible. The wheelchair ramp is located to the left of the main entrance. The main entry doors are equipped with handicapped door activation buttons.

All individuals seeking entrance to the facility must pass through security screening which includes a metal detector. The magnetometer located at the main entrance can accommodate a small wheelchair. Individuals with pacemakers or cochlear implants may request screening via a hand held wand from security screening personnel.

Wheelchair accessible public restrooms are located on all three floors of the court facility. All restrooms have wheelchair accessible stalls and sinks: however, restroom entrances are not equipped with handicapped door activation buttons. A wheelchair accessible restroom is also located on the first floor in the jury assembly room.

Drinking fountains are located on the first floor outside Department B201, on the second floor between Department B303 and B304 and on the lower level outside the elevator. The fountains are wheelchair accessible.

Smoke detectors and fire alarm systems are equipped with strobe lights.

Elevator cab is equipped with Braille signage and emergency call features to accommodate those with seeing and hearing impairment.

Courtroom Accommodations:

The Banning Justice Center is located in southeast Riverside County and is a three level building that houses six courtrooms: Departments B101, B201, B301, B302, B303 and B304. Department B101 is located on the lower level of the building, Department B201 is located on the first floor and Departments B301, B302, B303 and B304 are located on the second floor. All floors, including the lower level are accessible by elevator. The doors to the courtrooms do not have door activation buttons, but all courtrooms are wheelchair accessible. All counsel tables are wheelchair accessible, as well as the jury boxes and witness stands.

Assistive listening devices are available for hearing-disabled individuals. Individuals anticipating the need to use hearing assisted devices are requested to notify the ADA Coordinator’s Office by completing Judicial Council Form MC 410 and submitting the form to the Court's Human Resource Department as far in advance of the court date as possible and in any event no less than five (5) court days prior to the hearing.

If a printed transcript of a court hearing is required, please make arrangements to purchase one from the court reporter.

Individuals in need of sign language interpreters may request assistance through the Court's Human Resource Department. Individuals may request Computer Assisted Real-Time Transcription or CART assistance through the ADA Coordinator’s Office by submitting Judicial Council Form MC 410 to the ADA Coordinator in as far advance of the court date as possible and in any event no less than five (5) court days prior to the hearing. Generally, sign language interpreters and CART reporters are provided to facilitate a hearing disabled individual's participation in court proceedings, but they may be permitted to accompany an individual at other times to facilitate communication in court matters.

Clerk’s Office Accommodations:

The Clerk’s office is located on the first floor offering a wheelchair accessible counter as well as a clerk dedicated to assisting the disabled. Jury deliberation rooms are located on the second floor. The jury assembly room is located on the first floor of the courthouse. A self-help center, with wheelchair accessible workstations, is located on the first floor, where a small claims advisor assists with small claims matters at least once per month. A speech-generating device (NEO Text2Speech) is available upon request at any customer service window. Magnification devices are also available upon request to facilitate reading smaller print on court forms.
