Riverside Superior Court Invites Qualified Attorneys to Serve as Temporary Judges
The Superior Court of California, County of Riverside is seeking qualified attorneys to serve as Temporary Judges, offering experienced legal professionals an opportunity to support the administration of justice while making a meaningful impact in their communities.
“Temporary Judges play a vital role in our justice system by bringing their legal knowledge, professional experience, and commitment to public service to the bench,” said Presiding Judge Jacqueline C. Jackson. “Their service helps us meet the needs of our community while providing litigants with fair and timely resolution of their cases. We encourage qualified attorneys who are interested in giving back to consider serving in this important capacity.”
Temporary Judges are appointed at the discretion of the Presiding Judge when judicial assistance is needed beyond the capacity of the Court’s full-time judicial officers. These volunteer judicial officers help ensure timely access to justice and support the Court’s ability to efficiently serve the public.
Temporary Judges most frequently hear small claims and traffic matters, but may also preside over a variety of other case types, including:
- Criminal matters
- Probate proceedings
- Domestic violence cases
- Family law matters
- Civil discovery and settlement conferences
- Unlawful detainer cases
- Civil harassment proceedings
- Juvenile delinquency and dependency matters
To qualify, applicants must be admitted to practice law as a member of the State Bar of California for at least ten years, or at least five years with good cause for appointment. Applicants must also meet the education and training requirements outlined in California Rules of Court, Rule 2.812.
The Court welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences. A broad and representative pool of Temporary Judges helps strengthen public confidence in the judiciary and supports the Court’s commitment to equal access to justice.
Serving as a Temporary Judge provides attorneys with a unique opportunity to contribute their expertise, uphold the principles of fairness and impartiality, and gain valuable judicial experience while serving Riverside County residents.
